Runbook 1: guided runbook

A runbook to follow under pressure: ordered steps with a tick each, the next step marked, commands to copy but never run for you, cautions read before the step, minutes left, and Finish only when every step is done.

State

The normal view. Pick a state to see what the block shows while it loads, is empty or fails.

Open in v0 (opens in a new tab)

Installation

$ pnpm dlx shadcn@latest add @ballmac/runbook-1

Usage

Example: runbook-1-demo.tsx
"use client"

import { Runbook1 } from "@/components/ballmac/blocks/runbook-1/runbook-1"

export default function Runbook1Demo() {
  return <Runbook1 defaultDone={["s1"]} onStepChange={() => new Promise((r) => setTimeout(r, 200))} onComplete={() => new Promise((r) => setTimeout(r, 400))} />
}

States

Pass state and the block does the rest: skeletons that match its layout, a clear empty message, an error you can retry, and announcements for screen readers.

  • Loading

    Skeleton for the progress and the steps under the page, announced as loading.

    state="loading"
  • No runbook for this

    Says there is no runbook for this; pass runbook={null} and emptyState sets the copy.

    state="empty"
  • Could not load

    An alert saying nothing was changed, with Try again (onRetry). A tick that cannot be saved goes back and says why.

    state="error"

Dependencies

Use with AI

A guided runbook. <Runbook1 runbook={{ title, when, steps: [{ id, title, body, command?, caution?, minutes? }] }} defaultDone={['s1']} onStepChange={(stepId, done) => Promise} onComplete={() => Promise} />. The first step not done is marked Next (aria-current='step'). Commands are shown as code with a Copy button and are never executed. Finish is off until every step is ticked.
