Seat map 1: choose seats

A seat map for a cinema or venue: rows with walkways, price tiers, taken and wheelchair seats marked in words, a limit and running total, a best-seats-together helper, keyboard arrows, and a hold that survives a lost seat.

State

The normal view. Pick a state to see what the block shows while it loads, is empty or fails.

Open in v0 (opens in a new tab)

Installation

$ pnpm dlx shadcn@latest add @ballmac/seatmap-1

Usage

Example: seatmap-1-demo.tsx
"use client"

import { Seatmap1 } from "@/components/ballmac/blocks/seatmap-1/seatmap-1"

export default function Seatmap1Demo() {
  return <Seatmap1 onContinue={() => new Promise((r) => setTimeout(r, 700))} />
}

States

Pass state and the block does the rest: skeletons that match its layout, a clear empty message, an error you can retry, and announcements for screen readers.

  • Loading

    A skeleton hall and summary under the real heading, announced as loading.

    state="loading"
  • No showing chosen

    Says to choose a date and time first; emptyState sets the copy and can add a button.

    state="empty"
  • Could not load

    An alert saying nothing was held, with Try again (onRetry). A hold that fails says nothing was charged; a lost seat is marked taken and the others stay chosen.

    state="error"

Quality scorecard

7/7

Every applicable check passes

Measured in Chromium 153.0.8010.12 on October 19, 2026, on version 1.0.0, across 6 examples.

How we measure
  • Passed: Accessibility scan

    No serious or critical issues in light and dark, on a phone and a desktop (axe-core 4.13.0, WCAG 2.1 AA and best-practice rules).

  • Passed: Small screens

    No sideways scrolling at 360, 390 or 1280 px wide.

  • Passed: Reduced motion

    Every endless animation stops when the visitor asks for less motion.

  • Not applicable: Right to left

    Not mirrored by design: The hall is a floor plan: seat 1 stays on the left in every language, and the grid makes up most of the page's elements.

  • Passed: Clean console

    No console errors or React hydration errors while loading.

  • Passed: Keyboard

    21 tab stops, each showing a visible change when it takes focus. 3 documented keys.

  • Passed: Loading, empty and error

    Ships loading, empty, error states, each with an example.

  • Passed: Automated tests

    Covered by seatmap-1.test.tsx.

  • For information: Footprint

    5.7 KB of source (gzip) in 1 file. Installs lucide-react.

Automated checks find a subset of problems and do not replace testing with a screen reader and a keyboard in your own app. What they miss.

Dependencies

Use with AI

A seat picker. <Seatmap1 show tiers={[{ id, label, price }]} rows={[{ row: 'A', tier: 'std', seats: 12, gaps: [6] }]} taken={['B4']} accessible={['A1']} maxSeats={6} currency locale defaultSelected={['C5']} onContinue={(seats, total) => Promise} />. Seat ids are the row letter plus the number ('C7'); gaps are numbers left empty for walkways. Pick for me chooses the best block of neighbouring seats for the party size. Reject onContinue with an error that has taken: ['C7'] and those seats become taken while the rest stay chosen; any other rejection shows its message.
