Upload 1: upload manager

An upload manager: a drop area that reacts to dragging, validation that explains each rejection, and a list where every file has its own state (waiting, uploading with progress, finishing, done, or failed with a reason and retry).

State

The normal view. Pick a state to see what the block shows while it loads, is empty or fails.

Open in v0 (opens in a new tab)

Installation

$ pnpm dlx shadcn@latest add @ballmac/upload-1

Usage

Example: upload-1-demo.tsx
"use client"

import { Upload1 } from "@/components/ballmac/blocks/upload-1/upload-1"

export default function Upload1Demo() {
  return <Upload1 />
}

States

Pass state and the block does the rest: skeletons that match its layout, a clear empty message, an error you can retry, and announcements for screen readers.

  • Loading

    A skeleton of the drop area and the list under the real heading.

    state="loading"
  • Nothing yet

    Just the drop area, which is the empty state: it says where to drop and what is accepted.

    state="empty" (or defaultItems={[]})
  • Uploads unavailable

    An alert with Try again (onRetry) and a drop area that is switched off, so nothing is dropped into a broken page.

    state="error"

Quality scorecard

8/8

Every applicable check passes

Measured in Chromium 153.0.8010.12 on October 19, 2026, on version 1.0.0, across 4 examples.

How we measure
  • Passed: Accessibility scan

    No serious or critical issues in light and dark, on a phone and a desktop (axe-core 4.13.0, WCAG 2.1 AA and best-practice rules).

  • Passed: Small screens

    No sideways scrolling at 360, 390 or 1280 px wide.

  • Passed: Reduced motion

    Every endless animation stops when the visitor asks for less motion.

  • Passed: Right to left

    Mirrors correctly in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and Urdu layouts (2% of elements off the mirror, limit 15%).

  • Passed: Clean console

    No console errors or React hydration errors while loading.

  • Passed: Keyboard

    10 tab stops, each showing a visible change when it takes focus. 3 documented keys.

  • Passed: Loading, empty and error

    Ships loading, empty, error states, each with an example.

  • Passed: Automated tests

    Covered by upload-1.test.tsx.

  • For information: Footprint

    5.9 KB of source (gzip) in 1 file. Installs lucide-react.

Automated checks find a subset of problems and do not replace testing with a screen reader and a keyboard in your own app. What they miss.

Dependencies

Use with AI

A multi-file upload page. <Upload1 accept="image/*,.pdf,.csv" acceptLabel="PNG, JPG, PDF or CSV" maxSize={10_000_000} maxFiles={10} concurrency={2} onUpload={async (file, report, signal) => { /* send it; call report(0..1); throw to fail */ }} onItemsChange />. Each file is one of queued, uploading, processing, done or failed; rejected files (wrong type, too large, over the limit) are listed as failed with the reason. Without onUpload it simulates uploading. With the shadcn MCP server set up (guide), ask your agent:

Add the Ballmac UI Upload 1: upload manager (@ballmac/upload-1) to this project with the shadcn MCP, then use it where it fits.

Use it for

  • Uploading several files to a project, library or ticket
  • Anywhere progress per file, retry and cancel matter

Not for

  • Picking one file in a form (use file-dropzone)
  • Attaching a file to a chat message (use chat-attachment)
  • Avatar upload (use file-dropzone with a preview)
